The weekend is here, which unfortunately for motorists means plenty of planned road closures – including the M25, A1 and the Dartford Crossing.

Works on the M25 continue as part of a £317m project to increase the number of lanes at junction 10 with the A3.

But thankfully it’s an overnight closure – not the whole weekend. There have been three full-weekend closures this year so far, but National Highways has previously said there will be no more until Spring 2025.

Meanwhile, on the A1, there are overnight carriageway closures north and southbound to allow for major carriageway works.

There are also overnight carriageway, slip road and link road closures on the M6 in both directions for maintenance works. The QEII Bridge and Dartford east tunnel will be closed over the weekend.

All together there are 40 road closures across the country today. You can find the full list on the National Highways website.

North west train routes ‘will be cancelled at short notice’ tomorrow

Sara Odeen-Isbister

A shortage of train crew across the Northern rail network means some routes in the north west ‘will be cancelled at short notice’ on Sunday September 15, the train firm said.

Northern strongly advises planning ahead and checking your journey in full before travelling.

It has urged people not to travel on the following routes:

  • Stalybridge – Manchester Victoria
  • Manchester Piccadilly – Chester
  • Manchester Piccadilly – Stoke-on-Trent

These routes will be subject to on-the-day disruption and cancellations, the company said, particularly last trains of the day which may be earlier than usual.

Customer control teams are working to update the train plan, it added, but people should check closer to the time of travel.

If you purchased your ticket through Northern, and you decide not to travel, you can claim a full refund for your unused tickethere.
